The 1st Musiccurriculum is a progressive course for ages 3 – 6 (divided by age and developmental stage) designed to prepare young children for formal music training by helping them develop a strong musical foundation – steady beat; tuneful singing; understanding elements, language, notation and vocabulary of music - all while learning to play pre-keyboard instruments, read music, and play together from Day 1!
Using not only classical music, but also traditional music from around the world (including cultures represented in our class), the children sing, dance, explore, and play their way to musical understanding – we always “experience first, then intellectualise” (Orff Pedagogy).
Through the enjoyment of routine practice and playing real musical instruments, by age 5 or 6 each child is perfectly prepared for 1-2-1 Lessons & Music FUNdamentals. The most wonderful part is how they grow in self-confidence while mastering exciting new skills – becoming little musicians before they ever attend their first piano or guitar lesson!
Keeping in mind that home is where we learn the most, and music is meant to be shared, we aim to facilitate practice routines with weekly Music@Home suggestions and a whole family music experience with our quarterly Family Days.
